New CPAP Systems | 900 Series The RemRest Series is engineered to meet the needs of each level of the sleep therapy market — patient, physician, dealer as well as the growing number of international customers. RemRest CPAP Features Tier 1:
This model is designed to be your low-cost alternative in the demanding managed care marketplace. Includes our Noise Reduction Technology (NRT), to provide patients with extremely quiet operation, digital ramp and pressure controls and international power supply capabilities. Optional DC power cord and carry bag provide additional versatility and mobility to this unitTier 2:
Engineered with an internal pressure transducer that continually monitors the prescribed setting and adjusts the blower for changes in pressure due to resistance in the interface circuit or changes in altitude. The LCD screen provides readouts of total running time and patient usage time, and is used for setting ramp and pressure. Major compliance issues are addressed with the addition of the Auto Compliance feature which monitors usage and has an indicator light that will flash if a patient’s usage is less than 28 hours per week. The dynamic calibration feature can be used to overcome the resistance inherent in nasal interfaces.Tier 3:
The Tier 3 model has every feature included on the Tier 2 PLUS enhanced features for measuring and downloading patient compliance data and an Interface Alert, which notifies the patient every 90 days that their interface could need replacing. Through the use of a real-time clock and internal flash memory the unit stores compliance data that is easily downloadable via the DB9 serial port. Patient usage can also be monitored by having the user hold down the mode button, revealing a data code that the provider can interpret. Rounding out this complete compliance package is the quick loading, easy-to-use RemRest Compliance Software for PC.Device SpecificationsPressure Range: 3.5 to 20 cm H20
Weight, Flow Generator Only: <5.0 lbs (2.27 kg)
Warranty: 3 Year warranty
Size: 4.7″H x8.6″W x 9.4″D
Its flexibility is ideal for sleep labs, clinics, and dealers with compromised budgets or storage. It’s a smart mask for a wide range of faces, and ideal for sleepers who turn frequently during slumber.

The MiniMe has all the same features as the IQ mask, only on a smaller scale. On smaller noses, the MiniMe can be worn as a conventional mask. Don’t let the compact lightweight design fool you — this is a mask for adults.

These nasal masks feature a bendable wire embedded in a flexible shell. This allows bending and reshaping for a proper fit. The skin-soft gel cushion reduces the irritation commonly associated with nasal masks.

One usually wonders why he snores at night. Both friends and family members usually joke him around. The strange and funny sounds you make while on your sleep seems so amazingly hilarious to them. At first you seem amused as well, laughing your snoring issue with them. But then it gets to a point, that it is no longer a laughing matter to you; in fact, you don’t find it funny anymore when they make jokes about it. Your lack of sleep from several nights puts you in a point where you seem edgy and oversensitive, especially when you finally realize that it is now a real problem for you, and others seem only to make fun of your predicament.

When you are losing sleep, and can’t get a good night’s rest – perhaps your snoring has become a sleeping disorder known as Sleep Apnea Snoring. You will know that you probably might have Sleep Apnea Snoring when occasionally choke and grasp for breath in your sleep, and when your snoring becomes very loud. There is obstructed breathing with this case. And episodes of obstructed breathing vary from 30 to 300 events per night, and last more than 10 seconds per event. These reduce oxygen levels in the blood, which causes the heart to work harder

The side effects of having Sleep Apnea Snoring is that the affected person will not have a good rest out of his sleep, and he will usually feel sleepy throughout the day. With several nights under this condition, he becomes jittery, unable to concentrate on the task at hand, moody and experiences headaches throughout the day. Worst effects of Sleep Apnea Snoring, especially if left untreated, include heart failure, irregular heartbeats and hypertension.

Usually experienced by males, overweight people, and those over age forty, this does not exclude children at all. Having large tonsils or having excess tissue in the throat area seem to increase the person’s probability of having Sleep Apnea Snoring. Having larger neck sizes than normal also contribute to this.

If you observe these symptoms, it is wise to have yourself checked up by the doctor. A polysomnogram is used to diagnose for Sleep Apnea Snoring condition. This test records your heart rate, muscle activity, air flow, blood oxygen levels, electrical activity of the brain and the like, during your night’s sleep.

Treatment of Sleep Apnea Snoring may be thru self-help like having a healthy food diet combined with a sound exercise program. This is usually utilized for those on mild conditions only. Continuous positive airway pressure is also used to blow air through your upper airway, which prevents airways tissues from obstructing your breathing during sleep. For serious cases, surgery would be the answer. This is commonly applied for those with upper airway obstruction caused by enlarged tonsils, a deformed nasal septum, etc. Surgery should be the last recourse though in treating Sleep Apnea Snoring.

Sleep apnea is more common than many people would like to think. If affects nearly as many adults as diabetes does. Therefore, many people have no choice but to deal with it. In order to properly deal with sleep apnea, you must first be properly diagnosed.

If your doctor believes you have sleep apnea, he or she will send you to take a test known as polysomnogram or PSG. This test records a variety of things while you are sleeping. Polysomnogram can help your doctor establish what type of sleep apnea you are dealing with. This test can also let your doctor know how severe your sleep apnea is and what the actual cause may be.

In order to find the most effective treatment, your doctor may need to try several different treatments before settling on one. Different people respond differently to the variety of treatments available. Treatment will vary according to how severe the sleep apnea is and the specific symptoms.

One of the most common symptoms of sleep apnea is snoring. Often times, snoring can be eliminated or significantly reduced with treatment. By improving the snoring, people will generally see a decrease in apneic events during the night. Therefore, you are able to get a more peaceful nights sleep.

When treating sleep apnea, not only will you see a change at night, you will see a change during the day. Drowsiness, poor memory, lack of concentration, irritability and fatigue are all side effect of sleep apnea. With treatment, these symptoms will subside.

In order to properly deal with sleep apnea, lifestyle changes must be made. Some changes that might need to be made are to lose weight, avoid sleeping pills or sedatives, quit smoking and drinking less alcohol.

In some instances, with more moderate to severe cases, a nose mask may need to be worn at night. The mask is part of a machine called Continuous Positive Airway Pressure or CPAP. The mask helps to improve airflow by keeping the throat open while you are breathing.

A Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure or Bi-PAP mask may need to be worn in the worst cases of sleep apnea. This type of mask regulates the airflow that comes in and out of the noise, at various levels of pressure.

Sleep apnea is very common. With proper diagnosis it can easily be treated. So if you believe you are suffering from sleep apnea, be sure to contact a doctor to get a proper diagnosis and treatment.

While many people have snoring problems, they usually laugh it off and don’t think that it affects their health at all. In all reality, they could be no further from the truth. Snoring can be a precursor to a dreaded sleep disorder known as sleep apnea.

Few people realize exactly what sleep apnea is. It is a condition in which there is an obstruction of the airway while a person is asleep. Consequently, snoring is a sign that the airway is at least partially obstructed, and the noise snoring is known for is the body’s unconscious attempt to gasp for air. In sleep apnea, the airway can be totally obstructed, causing a person to not breathe while sleeping for 10 seconds or longer at a time. This can cause the victim to wake up throughout the night, gasping for air, and often being left with a sore throat and a headache due to the lack of oxygen and the friction in their airway. These breathless periods are known as ‘apneas’ and obstructive sleep apnea sufferers may experience them hundreds of times throughout the night.

The sore throat and headaches are actually some of the least problematic symptoms caused by sleep apnea. Since the sufferer tends to wake up multiple times throughout the night, their body’s regular sleep schedule is undeniably altered. Those with apnea often wake up feeling like they got no sleep at all, causing them to be drowsy, inattentive, and aggravated throughout the day. Sleep apnea often does not let up, either, causing the person to get less sleep than they need every night until the problem is treated. Long-term untreated apnea sufferers often experience higher blood pressure from the condition, as well as an increased risk of stroke or heart attack. Sufferers also face an exponentially higher risk of being in an automobile accident due to their constant drowsiness and lack of concentration.

If you think that you may have sleep apnea, you can participate in an overnight sleep study at a hospital to accurately diagnose the condition. Known as a polysomnography test, doctors monitor your breathing patterns throughout the night to ensure that the problem that you face is in fact sleep apnea. If you have sleep apnea, a number of solutions may be employed, most commonly via the use of a CPAP machine. Standing for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, the machine forces air into your airway, allowing you to get the oxygen you need to stay asleep throughout the night.

If you think you have sleep apnea, you need to act on it immediately; waiting can only prolong the problems that you face.

Although the common wisdom is that we spend a third of our lives sleeping, many of us don’t get the quantity or the quality of sleep we need. Our hectic lifestyles and the 24-7-365 availability of distractions such as cable television and the Internet can cause us to cut back on the seven to nine hours of sleep that experts recommend we get each night. But even if we shoot for an adequate quantity of sleep, back pain and other problems can prevent us from getting the quality of sleep we need.

When lower back pain, neck pain, snoring, or a sleep disorder prevents us from getting the sleep we need, we accumulate what experts term a “sleep debt.” One or two nights of restless or inadequate sleep won’t harm us, but a pattern of sleep disruptions can have serious repercussions on our health, ranging from mental fuzziness and mood swings to cessations of breathing and even death. According to the National Sleep Foundation, “Sleep deprivation has been linked to health problems such as obesity and high blood pressure, negative mood and behavior, decreased productivity, and safety issues in the home, on the job, and on the road.”

When back pain or neck pain causes sleep disruptions, it may be time to invest in a new mattress. Mattresses that use natural fibers, such as cotton, tend to harden over time, while box springs can begin to sag. A mattress that has outlived its usefulness forces you to sleep in positions that cause or exacerbate lower back pain and neck pain. While a new mattress set is an investment, it is one that will repay you a hundredfold in the form of mental alertness and physical energy that comes from getting restful sleep.

Sleep culprits like neck pain and snoring can often be alleviated with a new pillow. Special posture pillows are available that provide back and neck support, and that can raise your head enough to reduce snoring. A sleep posture pillow may take a period of adjustment, since your body will need to get used to a new position, but the positive effects should kick in within two to three weeks.

Keep in mind that severe snoring can sometimes be a symptom of obstructive sleep apnea, a condition where the tissues at the back of the throat block the airway. This causes the person with sleep apnea to stop breathing for a moment and then awaken. Sleep apnea can cause dozens of awakenings each hour, and can be a life-threatening condition. The bed partner of a person with sleep apnea is often the first to know something is wrong, since he or she can hear the person snoring and hear pauses in breathing, usually followed by a snort or a loud snore.

If you suspect you have sleep apnea, it’s important to have the condition properly diagnosed through a sleep study conducted overnight in a sleep lab. Treatment is most often the use of a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine that pushes air through the throat and into the lungs during sleep. Like a sleep posture pillow, a CPAP machine takes some getting used to. But it’s a minor adjustment compared with the benefits of restful sleep.

Continuous Airway Pressure Treatment, also known as CPAP, for short, is a treatment used for the treatment of sleep apnea, and in some cases, snoring. CPAP has proven to be very effective for treating these sleeping disorders, and is often used by sleep therapists as a preferred method of treatment.

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder which causes a person to stop breathing for short spaces throughout their sleep. A person suffering from sleep apnea may experience anywhere from five to thirty or more incidents of apnea per hour, each lasting ten seconds or more.
All About Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Treatment (CPAP)

Apnea is divided into two categories, based on its cause. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is caused by a restriction in the patients airways. Central sleep apnea is caused by a break in the signals from the brain to the lungs, etc. CPAP is effective for cases of OSA, but not Central Sleep Apnea.

CPAP works by supplied a stream of pressurized air to the patients lungs, via a mask the patients wears while sleeping. This air will be supplied at a rate set by a sleep therapist, often at a sleep center. The ideal pressure is determined by observation – the ideal pressure is the pressure at which incidents of apnea are reduced most or stopped. Some newer CPAP machines have a feature which decreases air pressure when the patient exhales, to improve the comfortability of the device.

Newer technologies also use automatic pressure monitoring. A computer automatically adjusts the air pressure so that it is always at an optimal level.

Most patients will notice a marked improvement in their sleep the first night they use CPAP. While the CPAP machinery and mask may not be convenient, the benefits more than outweigh the disadvantages.

CPAP machines are now available to the public for purchase. Of course, before buying and using one, you should consult with your health care professional.
